Very nice story. Lots of things that resonated with me. I smiled at the mention of the Observer's Book of British Butterflies. Confession time, a long time ago (c1970) I was into collecting butterflies, albeit mostly just close to home in Lancaster. It didn't take me long to turn away from the idea of killing things and later I tried capturing them with a camera instead - but wildlife/macro photography is hard and needs more patience than I possess.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm always in awe of any kind of wildlife photographer, particularly of flying things. I will confess to enjoying having a close look at the pinned butterflies in natural history collections but I would rather see the living variety.

Thanks. Not been much of a butterfly summer so far…

I’m in awe of wildlife photographers too. I’ve done just enough dabbling to know how demanding it really is. Landscape and outdoor pursuits were always my scene.
