Shuffle it to the top of the pile, it’s a good one. Trollope’s not for everyone; I’ve read one and a half Bronte novels and couldn’t stand them, none too fond of Dickens either but plenty of people love them - nobody ‘ought’ to read any particular author, but if you enjoyed The Warden at all you’ll probably enjoy his style in general.
I’m listening to the audio version of the sequel to The Warden, Barchester Towers. My first Trollope. Enioying it. But it’s taking a while. And, when it comes down to it, it’s about a widow being wooed and the Bishops awful wife and not really about clergy or the church at all.
The bishop’s awful wife is a great character though. I felt like there was a lot of clergy in there but maybe that’s because I’m not a church person and you are? As long as you’re enjoying it, I guess it doesn’t matter :-)
There are LOADS of clergy in there, but all the energy of the story is around the women (like the astonishing Mrs Proudie), not the various posts and preferments. He's an astonishing writer, though, and I hope to read many more. Sounds like I have many more to go!
