Frankly, who knows what to expect these days? Anything could happen. But assuming my life trundles along more or less as before, these are the writing-related plans for the coming year:
5 more episodes of monologue audio sitcom Lee-Ann’s Spare Fridays, released monthly from January-May
Book reviews, since I really slacked off in 2023 and I like to think I might help you find a good book to read, and an author find a new audience
a celebratory photo in April when the Comedy Women in Print 2022/23 anthology with my shortlisted story in it arrives
a live performance in May at the Purple Room in Ben Rhydding, for which I hope to write some new stories as well as reading old(er) favourites
And that’s it, so far. Right now, I think the 2nd series of Lee-Ann’s Spare Fridays might be the last. Never say never, of course, and that doesn’t preclude one-off specials now and then, but if a 2-series run was good enough for Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads, it’s good enough for Lee-Ann.
I have no writing competitions I desperately want to enter, though maybe some of the usual ones will tempt me as their deadlines draw nearer. I have no magazines or journals I’m aiming to submit to. There are no novel ideas I’m itching to start writing.
Maybe that’s a symptom of spending so much time on Lee-Ann & co. since December 2022, and after May I’ll be fizzing with new ideas and enthusiasm. I mean, hopefully I’ll have sufficient in the way of new ideas before May to give me new material for the Purple Room, but maybe after May I’ll be ready for a big new project. We shall see.
In the meantime I’ll continue to share background and making-of type of stuff for Lee-Ann’s Spare Fridays, plus book reviews and some of my own fiction. Thank you for sticking around or if you’re new here, Welcome.
